WARDOGS Metagame: Black Market, Gold Bars and Skills
Where the Metagame Fits
WARDOGS has an unusual money design: cash never leaves the game, and it never comes from your wallet. BULKHEAD’s commitments are blunt — no monetisation during Early Access apart from the optional Supporter Edition, never monetised in-game cash or gold bars, and never direct purchase of camos, because a camo is meant to show effort rather than spend.
That leaves the metagame as the sink for cash you do not need for loadouts.
Gold Bars and the Black Market
- Gold bars are the endgame currency. You convert in-match cash into gold bars — they cannot be bought.
- They are spent in the Black Market on cosmetics: weapon skins, vehicle skins, emotes and similar.
- Timing matters. Beta players reported conversion being cheapest early and mid-season, and getting expensive near a season’s end when everyone is cashing out.
What Was Visible But Not Playable
During the betas several menu entries existed without being accessible. Being clear about the difference between “shown” and “shipped”:
| System | Status as of the September 2026 betas |
|---|---|
| Black Market | Scrollable, partly visible — gold bars for cosmetics confirmed |
| Vault | Announced by BULKHEAD alongside the Black Market; not playable in beta |
| Player Skills | A skill tree with skill points and XP requirements, seen in BULKHEAD’s own devlog |
| Missions | A menu tab only — nothing shown or described in detail |
| Investments | Referenced by developers; understood to involve investing cash into in-game companies |
| Loadout presets | A menu section, presumably for pre-building kits to buy in one action |
The Skill Tree
BULKHEAD’s “10 Reasons NOT to Buy” devlog showed enough of the skills screen to read several nodes and the structure around them:
- Improved weapon swap speed
- Improved ready-to-fire speed
- Recoil reduction
- Tactical sprint recovery time
- Stamina cost for sprinting
The panel shown was labelled Infantry, which strongly implies parallel trees for other domains — vehicles being the obvious candidate. Skill points appear to be earned against an XP requirement.
The Official Framing
BULKHEAD described the metagame in April 2026 as “our frontend experience that will enable you to continue earning, progressing and adding value to your account even when not in a match”, with the foundation designed but the system to be built out during Early Access. That is the correct expectation for September 10: the core loop is complete, the metagame is a roadmap item.
