WARDOGS Best Settings for FPS and Visibility
Start From the Official Baseline
BULKHEAD publishes performance targets rather than vague tiers, which makes the requirements page unusually useful:

Note what the minimum tier says: 60 fps at 1080p Low is an upscaled target. Upscaling is part of the intended configuration on lower-end hardware, not a fallback. Full specs are on the system requirements page.
BULKHEAD also built a custom layer on top of Unreal Engine 5 — they call it the WAR DYNAMICS FRAMEWORK — specifically to handle 100-player density, and the July level-design devlog was largely about optimisation across a wide hardware range.
The Settings That Actually Cost Frames
From beta configuration walkthroughs, the heavy hitters in the quality menu are:

Turning shadows fully off removes a genuine information source — moving shadows reveal players you cannot see directly — so Low rather than Off is the usual compromise.
Upscaling and Latency
- DLSS on Balanced was the common pick among beta creators, with frame generation off — frame gen adds latency, which matters more than the frame counter in a shooter.
- NVIDIA Reflex (Boost) on.
- V-Sync off, and disable the main-menu FPS limit if you use it as a load test.
If your GPU does not support DLSS, the same logic applies to FSR: quality-balanced upscaling yes, frame generation no.
Field of View and ADS
Two options change what you see more than any graphics slider:
- FOV — beta creators ran values as high as 120. Higher FOV shows more of the flanks and makes distant targets smaller; this is a preference, not a correct answer.
- ADS FOV: Independent vs Affected — Independent keeps aimed zoom consistent regardless of your base FOV, which is how the game was designed to be read. Affected scales aimed zoom with your FOV setting at magnifications below roughly 3.25×. Test both at the firing range with the same optic before committing.
- Weapon view model — width and position of your gun on screen; wider frees up more of the centre of the screen.
- Brightness and sharpness are visibility settings, not cosmetic ones, on a map full of tree lines and dust.
Practical Order of Operations
- Set the resolution you actually play at, then turn V-Sync off and Reflex on.
- Set DLSS/FSR to Balanced, frame generation off.
- Set Overall quality: Custom, then apply the table above.
- Fix your FOV and pick an ADS FOV mode — then leave both alone so your aim stays calibrated.
- Go to the firing range and check that you can still read targets against tree lines at distance. If not, put shadows or view distance back up.
Before You Blame the Game
Several beta stutter reports came down to GPU drivers rather than the build. If you are seeing stutter or hitching, update to a current driver, then verify game files through Steam. If the game will not start at all, see troubleshooting.
